Are you safe on the water?
Do you wear your life jacket?
Does everyone on board know what to do if someone falls overboard?
Do you have plenty of fluids for hot days?
Are you well protected against the sun?
Are you refueling your boat correctly to prevent spills and fires?
Do you prohibit bow riding as required by law?
Are you watching your wake in no-wake or slow speed zones?
Do you know the rules of the road?
Does your boat have ALL of the required safety equipment?
These are just a few of the obvious things to keep in mind. Please be safe on the water this season. Boating fatalities in Maryland have been on the increase the last few years. Expect to see the DNR, Coast Guard, and the Auxiliary paying close attention to safety on the water.
…and PLEASE do not drink and boat. Wear that life jacket. Most of the people that died in boating accidents were NOT wearing a life jacket.
