Boating Safety Tip of the Day
Wear a Life Jacket

Wear a life jacket also known as a PFD or Personal Flotation Device.  The life jacket floats, you don’t. A life jacket will save your life. There is no reason not to wear one.

Boating Safety and Seamanship

The Auxiliary’s most comprehensive course of instruction. The BS&S student earns a Coast Guard Boating Safety Certificate and card as well as a State of Maryland Card (required to operate vessels in Maryland if you were born after 1972.)

Instructors of this and all Auxiliary courses have earned training certifications. Each of the instructors teaches on topics of interest to them and the student benefits from that knowledge. Many students have told our flotilla members that attending the classes made a big difference to them personally.

Auxiliarists themselves are required to pass the course in order to achieve what is called Basic Qualification.

The BS&S class is generally taught just ahead of boating season in an effort to get new and prospective boat owners ready for Summer. Our class schedule will be posted here at the website when a new class for 2010 is scheduled.
